This is the cover for a mix CD I created to share with friends the newest musical discoveries I have made. I included a photo I took in December of my Christmas tree with a vector drawing of snowflakes I had used in a school project. Typefaces used are Myriad Pro, Adobe Garamond Pro, and Futura Light/Medium.
Tools used: Adobe Illustrator CS2, Adobe Photoshop CS2, Adobe Acrobat 7.
This poster, created for a school project, advertises the San Francisco Zoo's "Wild Nights"— overnight adventures for parents and children. Conceptually I wanted the poster to appeal to all ages, and I particularly wanted it to stand out to children, who might notice it on a BART train or in a grocery store; a whimsical attitude, while still being informational for those who could read.
Tools used: Adobe Illustrator CS2, Adobe Photoshop CS2, Adobe Acrobat 7.
This logo/business card/letterhead system was done for a school project. The business is fictitious, though I do freelance cartography as well as more advertising-minded design. The O is an ouroboros—a snake eating its tail—with the Earth rotating inside of it, and I drew the logo's text myself.
Tools used: Adobe Illustrator CS2, Adobe Acrobat 7.

For a class I took last year at SF State, my group presented for 20 minutes on the wealth of museums we have in San Francisco. One component of the presentation was a "travel guide" of sorts, so students in the class could visit the places we'd talked about. I drew this map in Illustrator and laid out the page in InDesign—neither my teacher nor my classmates would believe me when I said that I made this myself!
Tools used: Adobe Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Acrobat 7.
Keeping with the theme of my cartography business, another assignment in a graphic design class I took was to imagine a magazine was going to write an article about the business, and design an introductory page to that article. My intro page was one of the more unique–it doesn't use a strict grid, instead opting for an eye–catching series of bullet points. Screened back and uniting the page is the Ouroboros Cartography logo—the ouroboros with Earth inside.
Tools used: Adobe Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Acrobat 7.
I had the pleasure of studying this past summer with noted typographer Alastair Johnston. Our final project for this class was to design a brochure for the San Francisco Public Library's Fox Collection of Early Children's Books. In addition to teaching me more about page layout, type, and InDesign, this project helped me to understand the importance of color calibration and printing knowledge in a graphic designer's work.
Tools used: Adobe Illustrator CS2, Photoshop CS2, InDesign CS2, Acrobat 7.
This is a closeup of the first inside page of the Fox Collection brochure. All photographs were taken by me at the SF Public Library and edited in Photoshop and Illustrator.
